I love this quote by noted trial lawyer Louis Nizer (1902-1994)
"A man who works with his hands is a laborer, a man who works with his hands and his mind is a craftsman, but a man who works with his hands, his mind and his heart is an artist."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpnHtTwXMEU This was so much fun! The beautiful Naples Princess cruised Naples Bay, and then went out in to the Gulf of Mexico. As it returned via Gordon Pass we saw dolphin leaping. Then we cruised around some of the beautiful homes in Port Royal. Meanwhile there was wearable art on board and a wonderful time was had by all.

Check out my first video: http://bit.ly/eK1F9z "Season" is about to start in Naples and there is so much happening. Aside from the Side Street Artists events each month, there is the Wearable Art Show on the Naples Princess on February 3 and another one on May 20th. Also, I have been contacted by Petunias about having a trunk show there. My students will be coming back to my studio in January and I can hardly wait to see them again. Looking forward to the new year and wishing all a happy and healthy 2011!!

The seasonal residents are returning as evidenced by the multiple car carriers and the increased traffic. Not only that, but sales at Kari's Kreations are up as well. Kari and I had tables at the recent Rotary International Convention at the Naples Grand and it was a huge success. It was a fun time as the Rotarians were a friendly and fun group of people.

Two wax resist processes look totally different: Batik--decorative, lots of dots and lines from tjanting, crackle, cotton, immersion dyeing), flat color vs. rozome--from painting tradition, uses brushes (no tjantings), silk, dye brushed on (no immersion), shading, little crackle, steaming required.

It's forever fascinating to see how a color changes when you place a different color next to it.

After a stimulating week in Houston participating in Betsy (now Kira) Sterling Benjamin's rozome workshop, I am getting ready for a busy season--waxing/dyeing, and more waxing/dyeing. There are lots of art shows to participate in--nat'l Rotary convention, Longshore Lakes, Opera Naples, and Side Street Artists--and I'm also looking forward to learning new skills via the Ikebana Society and the Photography group.
